AGENCIES OF THE CONGRESS PDF Imprimir Correo

The Congress, as any other institution, in order to perform its concerning duties, has been internally organized and it has a structure.  Within this structure we can find several agencies with special duties.

Full Congress

Full Congress is a reunion of senators and representatives in the same place. These meetings only take place in cases contemplated by law; and its powers are: To establish and close down their sessions, vest the President or the Vice-President when acting in its behalf, welcome Chiefs of State of other countries, elect the Attorney General, elect a Vice-President when the elected one must be replaced or in case of his total absence, acknowledge the physical disability of the President,  elect the judges of the Jurisdictional and Disciplinary Court of the Superior Judiciary Board, and decide about the vote of no confidence.

President

The President of the Senate as well as the President of the House of Representatives are elected for a one-year term, and they shall not be designated again within the same constitutional term. It should be emphasized that the President of the Senate is, at the same time, the President of Congress. As President of Congress, among other things, he must summon and chair, the Full Congress sessions, and he must act in behalf of the legislative branch along with the Vice-President of the Congress; who is the President of the House of Representatives.

Boards of Directors

The Senate as well as the House of Representatives elect their own Board of Directors. Such Boards of Directors have one president and two vice-presidents, in charge of leading each corporation and securing their order and operation. The Boards of Directors serve for a one-year term starting on July 20th, which is why these are always renewed.

Commissions

As we know, fundamental decisions are made in Congress for the future of the country. In order to do this appropriately, congressmen must meet to study and discuss specific topics of which they are responsible. These study groups are called commissions and consist of congressmen from diverse political parties and points of view.
